Quotes and Poems

I collect quotes and poems . Here are some of my favorites.

In a place called Somewhere
There lived happiness
Somewhere was a place of Paradise
But one day from Nowhere
Came Sorrow to the place called Somewhere
Happiness asked Sorrow to leave
The place called Somewhere
Sorrow went back to Nowhere
And then occupied the hearts of people
Who are kind and compassionate
As they never refused anybody a place to stay
So if you feel the pain
Which a person who has lost his mind bears
If your heart aches when you see a tear in someone's eyes
If you are ready to accept such a person and help him
You can be sure
That you have sheltered sorrow in your heart.
~Tito Mukhopadhya, Severely Autistic Teenager from India

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.~Rūmī

First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race”
~Calvin Coolidge

"'Let yourself become living poetry." ~Rūmī

"Surely the one thing which can bring about a fundamental change, a creative, psychological release, is everyday watchfulness, being aware from moment to moment of our motives, the conscious as well as the unconscious."
~J. Krishnamurti

"As long as we believe we are bodies, we don't have to know that we are infinite, our cells without limit, like music itself, free." ~Bryon Katie

"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion." ~Dalai Lama

"There is no such thing as a simple act of kindness; every single compassionate act sends ripples across the universe" ~Unknown

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.
- Friedrick Nietzsche

What else is love but understanding and rejoicing in the fact that another person lives, acts, and experiences otherwise than we do…?
- Friedrich Nietzsche

"Put away your pointless taboos and restrictions on sexual energy – rather help others to truly understand its wonder, and to channel it properly."
~God, channeled by Neale Donald Walsh

“Whenever a taboo is broken, something good happens, something vitalizing. Taboos after all are only hangovers, the product of diseased minds, you might say, of fearsome people who hadn't the courage to live and who under the guise of morality and religion have imposed these things upon us.”
~ Henry Miller

"Being an INFJ is like carrying around an enormous secret. We sit alone, surrounded by a crowd of people, and not a soul in the room suspects the greatness that lies within us." --Meridian @ INFJ CAFE

"I am an optimist, unrepentant and militant. After all, in order not to be a fool an optimist must know how sad a place the world can be. It is only the pessimist who finds this out anew every day." -- Peter Ustinov
